                                                                 Personal Statement

Sickness and death have always been among the scariest things in my life, and I have always tried my best to mitigate them. I know that people claim that they are a part of life and that we should accept them, but I believe that it is not right to just give in to them. I owe this perspective to the experiences I have had with my close family and friends who fell ill, particularly my grandmother, whom I had to look after due to her chronic kidney disease. I have always felt that no one should go through the pain of seeing someone they love suffer. As such, I have always wanted to give people hope, hope that things will be okay and that they need not worry about their difficulties. It is these experiences and the need to look out for people that made me want to be a nurse. This need was further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the importance of nurses in caring for people. I felt that being a nurse put me in a position to help the helpless and those who were in pain, giving them hope for a better day and acceptance of the situations facing them.

I wish to apply for a position in the Access to Health Professions course, focusing on biology, psychology, and sociology. I believe that I am qualified for it. Though I do not wish to sound overconfident, I am a fast and efficient learner who will do her best to ensure the safety of others, even when it means putting herself at risk. Such dedication and courage to do whatever it takes to ensure others’ happiness makes me suitable for the available position. I also have experience in the field that I believe would aid in my development, however minutely. I have worked as a Director of online business at Mayberkay Limited in London, England. I have also spent two years as a salon Sales Manager at Aria Beauty in London. Though these two jobs have given me significant experiences in leadership, the job that is most significant to me in relation to nursing is my work as a Hospital Administrative Assistant in the British Medical Laboratory in Girne, Cyprus. Besides, during the pandemic, I took an online course on Infection and Control, meaning that I have a good concept of what the course entails, as well as nursing. I do believe that with further knowledge, I will be a competent healthcare professional, seeing to it that every person I attend to has a reason to smile.

This study is relevant to me because it will get me one step closer to realizing my dream of taking care of people. I believe that with my present knowledge and experiences, I will help better people’s lives. This dream is achievable if I successfully master biology, which to me is fascinating because of the intense scientific research it entails. I also find psychology mind-blowing and sociology intriguing because of the deep conversations it ushers. Mastering these subjects would not only enhance my critical thinking and communication skills but would also help me garner knowledge sufficient enough to make an effective nurse out of me.

Among my most important hobbies is that I love spending time with my family and reading and researching. These hobbies will make me a better healthcare provider since my emphasis on family and friendship would reflect on the patients, thus enabling me to create great bonds with patients and provide better care. Also, my love for reading and researching, particularly health-related topics, will aid in my understanding of nursing and Access to Health Professions, to be specific.

I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to pursue a degree in nursing, specifically in Access to Health Professions, and would love a place in your university. I will bring positivity, and happiness, and positivity, hoping to gain adequate knowledge to protect and better lives. A good education is the key to an intelligent and skilled future, and I hope to be part of your journey.
